Macaron: The New Wedding Dessert!

IOB04.jpg

We are always looking for new ideas to share for weddings and events and one of the emerging trends that we love for dessert and favor options are macarons!

Macarons, not to be confused with macaroons (a baked coconut cookie), are a French, sweet meringue-based confection, commonly filled with ganache, buttercream, or jam. When I was planning the grand opening for Isabel O'Neil Bridal Collection, I was looking for sweet treats to offer our guests and I was introduced to Darla Smoak of Treat Me Sweet in Tampa. Darla was kind enough to provide her delicious macaron creations for a beautiful tower and favors for people to take home. Ever since then, they have been my "go-to" for brides shopping for wedding dresses in the shop, giveaways at bridal shows, and most recently at a baby shower I coordinated for a dear friend of mine.

I asked Darla why she thought macarons are perfect for weddings and she shared that "Macarons offer a sense of sophistication and novelty that most brides expect for their wedding and can be easily customized to match the color palette."  She also shared that in her experience, "Brides love the idea of having a no mess, easy to eat finger dessert that can be displayed in a variety of ways including a tiered stand simulating a wedding cake, a beautifully displayed cake stand, and even personalized favor boxes for each place setting at the reception.  Also, macarons are gluten free making it the perfect dessert for everyone including those that are wheat intolerant."

Macarons, are not only delicious, but the possibilities seem to be endless for options on flavors and colors. They offer a change from the most recent trend of cupcakes and cake pops at weddings but also have a more elegant appeal. Now that you know all the good reasons to try macarons, you may just fall in love with them too!

XOXO,

IOBC

P.S. Treat Me Sweet or TM Sweet is a vendor we love and recommend. They serve the Tampa Bay Area but also ship for those farther away. If you are looking for macarons for an event or just because, check out http://tmsweet.com.
